fusion, from the Bitches Brew album (1969)

Miles Davis, trumpet; Wayne Shorter, soprano sax; Jack DeJohnette, Lenny White, Charles Alias, all on drums; Bennie Maupin, bass clarinet; Chick Corea, electronic piano; Joe Zawinul, piano; Harvey Brooks, Dave Holland, both on bass; John McLaughlin, electric guitar; Jim Riley, percussion.

Members of the most prominent later fusion groups were part of this performance: John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, and Wayne Shorter. At the time, this style offered a new virtuosity that, like earlier technical approaches, has become a part of common practice.
